Kampala, Uganda: The Yellow Brigade Taskforce has been hailed as the largest and most structured National Resistance Movement (NRM) pressure group ahead of the forthcoming general elections, with its coordinators spread across nearly every district in the country.
According to Fire Merjeed Anguiza, the national coordinator, the Yellow Brigade is not in competition with other mobilization teams but is working toward one unified goal: securing a landslide victory for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM national chairperson and presidential flag bearer.
“We have statistics from the Electoral Commission showing 18,103,603 registered voters in 34,684 polling stations across Uganda. Our duty is to robustly comb every village to secure support for the President,” Anguiza said at a press briefing over the weekend.
He revealed that following the launch of the NRM manifesto, district coordinators and their executives will work hand in hand with local NRM structures to popularize the party’s agenda. He also urged Yellow Brigade members to take advantage of FM radio talk shows across the country to promote the party’s achievements.

However, some members raised logistical challenges. John Julius Okaki, the Pallisa District Taskforce treasurer, noted that transport remains a critical barrier to effective mobilization.
“One motorcycle per sub-county is not sufficient. In Pallisa alone with 21 sub-counties and 4 counties, we need at least 30 motorcycles in addition to those allocated to NRM chairpersons,” Okaki said.
Independent candidate Okurut Julius from Pallisa also weighed in, stressing the importance of inclusive mobilization for President Museveni’s re-election bid.
“For the NRM to win by a high percentage, every candidate should be allowed to campaign freely for the President. The Yellow Brigade Taskforce is the only pressure group that penetrates all camps because it is purely for Jajja,” Okurut remarked.
The Yellow Brigade Taskforce, formed in 2010 under the leadership of Fire Merjeed Anguiza, has since expanded its operations to 150 districts, establishing itself as one of the most influential volunteer groups within the NRM.
