Lango hails Museveni for peace, development gains as 2026 campaigns continue

Amolatar/Dokolo, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday continued his 2026 presidential campaign trail in the Lango Sub-region with massive rallies in Amolatar and Dokolo districts, where he was hailed for restoring peace and steering development programs that have transformed Northern Uganda.

Thousands of enthusiastic supporters gathered to hear the NRM flag bearer unpack the ruling party’s 2026–2031 Manifesto under the theme Protecting the Gains.

In Amolatar, the NRM district chairperson, Mr Kamilo Olwit, praised President Museveni for securing peace, driving development, and championing wealth creation initiatives. He cited the establishment of Lira University, the ongoing construction of Akii-Bua Stadium, and major roads such as Apac–Lira–Kamdini, as visible progress.

“The seeds you are planting here today will germinate and spread to all parts of Uganda,” Olwit said. “You fought the LRA, Alice Lakwena, and cattle rustlers, and today there is lasting peace. You have given us development, and now you are driving wealth creation.”

From the same platform, Speaker of Parliament and 2nd NRM National Vice Chairperson (Female) Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among also commended the President, saying Northern Uganda had been transformed from insecurity to opportunity.

“Your Excellency, in the past it would take us one week just to travel to Soroti because of insecurity. Today, Uganda is peaceful. We thank you for restoring peace and empowering people to prosper,” Among said.

Addressing the crowd, President Museveni distinguished between dongo lobo (development) and lonyo (household wealth), cautioning that poverty would persist unless families embraced the money economy.

“At Independence, only 9% of homes were in the money economy. Even by 2013, 68% were still stuck in subsistence. That’s why I started Operation Wealth Creation and later the Parish Development Model. Already the number outside the money economy has reduced, but everyone must join wealth creation so poverty is defeated,” Museveni said.

The President pledged to recruit 50,000 more teachers to address shortages in government schools, abolish illegal school charges, and strengthen the PDM by rooting out corruption, including theft of government drugs.

In Dokolo, he announced plans to upgrade the road from Dokolo to Namasale, reducing mileage to Kampala, but again emphasized that real prosperity lay in household wealth.

“This is all dongo lobo—roads, schools, electricity. But the real battle is lonyo. Even in Baralege where I live, I may not have tarmac roads, but I have cows, coffee, fruits. That is what we want for every homestead,” Museveni told supporters.

He showcased testimonies like that of Apio Piki, a farmer from Lira, who grew maize through PDM funding, earned millions, and expanded into livestock. “She had never handled one million shillings in her life, yet now she owns land and animals. This is what PDM is about,” Museveni noted.

At both rallies, NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda Hamson Obua and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong hailed the President’s record, saying the government’s track record of peace and socio-economic transformation continues to inspire confidence among the people.

Museveni is expected to continue his campaign in other districts of the Lango Sub-region today as he rallies communities to consolidate peace, development, and wealth creation.
