Apac, Uganda: The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, who also serves as the 2nd NRM National Vice Chairperson (Female), has received a rousing welcome in Apac District as she rallied support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Among, who is in the district on a mobilization tour ahead of the President’s visit this afternoon, urged residents of Northern and Eastern Uganda to rally behind Mr Museveni, describing him as a leader who understands their challenges and has provided lasting solutions.
“Because of his patriotism, H.E. Kaguta Museveni invested in security to ensure peace in this part of the country. Today, with initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) that empower women and youth, let us vote massively for him to continue with the transformation,” Among told cheering crowds.
Hon Among dismissed calls for a protest vote, questioning their basis. “What are you protesting for? We have peace, security is there, and people now have money. President Museveni brought PDM, and it is your money,” she said.

Similarly, the NRM Government Chief Whip, who is also the Ruling Party’s Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, echoed the Speaker’s remarks, noting that the journey from conflict to stability and from uncertainty to development has been possible because of NRM’s leadership.
“I thank the NRM Government for transforming this region from conflict to stability, and President Museveni in particular for his able leadership which must be protected to safeguard the gains achieved,” Obua said.
Fire Merjeed Anguiza, the National Coordinator of the Yellow Brigade Taskforce, also commended the strong mobilization efforts from Alebtong, Otuke, and Apac, stressing that the collaboration between NRM’s official structures and pressure groups has made it easier to consolidate support.
Historically, Apac District has been a stronghold of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), particularly under the legacy of former President Dr. Apollo Milton Obote.
For years, the district stood as one of UPC’s last bastions in Northern Uganda. However, recent elections have seen NRM steadily gain ground through investments in infrastructure, peacebuilding, and livelihood programmes, making Apac a key battleground ahead of 2026.
