Kampala, Uganda: The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has rescheduled the Kampala City Festival from October 5 to Sunday, October 12, 2025, to avoid a clash with the national Independence Day celebrations on October 9 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The festival, themed “Innovation, Culture and Sustainability,” is designed to be both festive and people-centered, with strong emphasis on security and social impact initiatives, KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki said.

Responding to intelligence reports of potential threats, police and security agencies have rolled out strict measures to safeguard all festivalgoers. Key arrangements include designated entry points, mandatory checkpoint screenings at locations such as Hotel Africana, and restricted zones at Upper and Lower Elgon Terraces.

Boda bodas will be restricted beyond border points, and attendees are urged to remain vigilant and avoid suspicious dealings. Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said these measures aim to guarantee a safe environment for all participants.

Focus on Social Impact and Sustainability

Organizers are prioritizing the festival’s social component by engaging orphanages and children’s homes across Kampala to ensure inclusivity.

ED Buzeki highlighted KCCA’s broader sustainability initiatives, including regular car-free days, citywide clean-up campaigns, and Cabinet-approved compensation for the Kiteezi landfill project, which will begin soon.

With cultural showcases, social outreach programs, and heightened security, KCCA is confident that the rescheduled Kampala City Festival will provide a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.
