Busiro East, Wakiso: Singer-turned-politician Mathias Walukagga has expressed total confidence in his impending victory for the Busiro East parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, declaring that the race is “already won” after securing the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag.
Walukagga, who triumphed in the party’s primaries, said he was already preparing his suit for the swearing-in ceremony, confident that the NUP endorsement alone guarantees his path to Parliament.
“One foot is already in Parliament because when you get the NUP card, you’ve secured 50% already, and you only need 1% to make 51% to swear in,” Walukagga said in an interview, adding that his faith and loyalty to the party are unwavering.
His victory in the party primaries has intensified the political contest in Busiro East, where incumbent MP Medard Sseggona announced his decision to contest as an independent after losing the NUP endorsement. Sseggona has represented the constituency for 15 years.
Despite Sseggona’s long experience, Walukagga remains unfazed. He said his time has come and that he is divinely chosen for leadership. “God decided to pick me,” he said, stressing that his journey is not only political but spiritual.
The musician-turned-politician also reaffirmed his loyalty to NUP, saying he would never contest as an independent, even if he hadn’t been chosen as the flag bearer. “Loyalty to the party comes first,” he noted, urging his supporters to rally behind the NUP cause.
As campaign season approaches, Walukagga says his focus is on victory, promising to deliver service and accountability to the people of Busiro East. He believes his message, coupled with his humility and connection to ordinary citizens, will secure him an easy win.
While his main challenger, Medard Sseggona, prepares to defend his seat as an independent, Walukagga insists that the people of Busiro East are ready for change. His confidence, charisma, and deep-rooted belief that “the seat is already his” have made him one of the most talked-about candidates ahead of 2026.
