VP Alupo empowers Katakwi elders with bicycles to boost NRM grassroots support

By Emmanuel Okol

Katakwi, Uganda: The Vice President of Uganda, H.E. Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, has donated 21 bicycles to elders across 21 sub-counties and town councils in Katakwi District to strengthen National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilization efforts at the grassroots level.

The distribution exercise, held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Aputon Primary School in Katakwi Town Council, was aimed at empowering retired workers and community elders to effectively coordinate door-to-door campaigns for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Vice President Alupo ahead of the forthcoming elections.

George Israel Odongo, one of the beneficiaries and head of elderly affairs in Ngariam Sub-county, lauded the Vice President and the NRM National Chairman for the initiative, saying the bicycles will ease their mobilization duties across the sub-counties.

“We shall now use these bicycles to carry out door-to-door and centre-to-centre campaigns, which will greatly boost party support in Katakwi District,” Odongo said.

Katakwi District SACCO Chairperson, Morulem Ben, also commended the NRM leadership under President Museveni and Vice President Alupo for their continued support to all categories of people, noting that empowering elders strengthens the party’s presence at the grassroots.

Morulem urged government to continue supporting elderly SACCOs to improve their livelihoods and sustain mobilization efforts.

“We ask government to intervene in supporting elderly SACCOs to enhance their income and motivation within society,” he added.

Representing the Vice President at the event, Raymond Odeke, the Head of the Vice President’s Campaign and Vice Chairperson NRM Katakwi District, thanked the elders for their contribution during party primaries, saying their commitment brought remarkable success for the party in the area.

“The Office of the Vice President will continue supporting elderly SACCOs to boost their development. As a team, we must work together to ensure we secure 100% support for the NRM in the forthcoming elections,” Odeke emphasized.

The event’s chief guest, Dr. Michael Opio, also known as “Goal Man,” who serves as the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Katakwi, officially flagged off the distribution. He hailed the elders for their steadfast support for the party before, during, and after elections.

“I flag you off to begin campaigns for our National Chairman, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. I am confident that Katakwi will deliver 100% for the mighty NRM,” Dr. Opio declared.

He further assured the elders of total support from the RDC’s office and encouraged them to embrace ongoing government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and UWEP to improve their socio-economic well-being.
