Excitement builds as Bagwere clans gear up for Bika Bya Bugwere tournament

Budaka, Uganda: Excitement is mounting across Bugwere County as the annual Bika Bya Bugwere Football Tournament, organized by Bagwere Batakangana Ltd (BBL), returns for its fourth edition on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Budaka Saaza Ground. The tournament promises a blend of cultural unity, sportsmanship, and community health awareness among the Bagwere people.

The steering committee, chaired by Mwima Moses, has vowed to ensure strict organization and discipline, warning that any team arriving after 3:00 PM risks forfeiting points ahead of the 4:00 PM kick-off.

Moses said the tournament’s goal goes beyond competition. “We believe in the power of unity and the need to uplift our community,” he emphasized, noting that BBL, a non-profit youth-led entity, has been instrumental in advancing health awareness, environmental conservation, and education through annual community outreach projects.

This year’s event will double as a platform for health education, with a focus on malaria prevention and HIV awareness through match-day announcements and public sensitization drives.

Nine clans have registered for the month-long competition, including Basikwe, Bayosi, Banswenza, Bagema, Bakaligwoko, Baganza, Banyekero, Bakatikoko, and Bakomolo.

The winning clan will walk away with a prestigious trophy and a cash prize of UGX 2 million. Previous champions include Banghole Clan, who won the first two editions, and Basikwe Clan, who claimed victory in the third.

Past editions have drawn crowds of up to 20,000 fans during the finals, and organizers expect an even larger turnout this year.

Speaking to media partners, Ismail Kabirizi (Daily Express) applauded BBL for promoting grassroots football, while Waaki Moses (Radio Simba) and Muyinda George (Bugwere FM) underscored the role of local media in community mobilization and youth empowerment.

As the countdown begins, anticipation is high over which clan will lift the trophy and etch its name in Bugwere football history.
