Kamuli ghetto youth demand inclusion in NRM mobilization activities

Promise Violet Aliyinza, known as the “Ghetto Princess,” rallies youths to protect the gains of the NRM government.

Kamuli, Uganda: Youths under the Busambu Namasagali Fangone Ghetto Youth Association have appealed to the ruling NRM Party and government to prioritize local mobilizers in rural campaign activities instead of importing teams from Kampala, warning that continued neglect could alienate young people from government programs.

During a meeting held at Busambu Kikonko Trading Centre with Kamuli Assistant RDC John Robert Batambuze, organized by Youth Advocate Promise Violet Aliyinza, the youths said they are often unfairly branded as opposition supporters, yet they remain loyal to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM Party.

“We are disappointed that even Mzee has been misled to believe that Ghetto Youth belong to Bobi Wine’s camp. We are only sidelined because of poverty and lack of access to government programs like PDM, whose strict requirements limit our participation,” said Igoola Waiswa, the group’s spokesperson. “We were born, raised, and bred under NRM, Mzee is our Jajja, and we want him to look after all his Bazukulu equally.”

Waiswa added that many Ghetto Youths turn to defiance not out of disloyalty but as a desperate way to be seen and heard. “Government and politicians make a mistake by alienating us. We just need a starting point and a chance to use our energy productively,” he noted.

The Fangone Ghetto Youth further revealed that they had begun a poultry and chapati-making project to transform their lives, inspired by Promise Violet Aliyinza, whom they described as their “sister and role model.”

“Sister Aliyinza overcame the toxic environment of Kikonko and taught us to back Mzee and Mama Kadaga. We are now ready for development and progress with NRM,” Waiswa added.

In her remarks, Aliyinza, affectionately called the “Ghetto Princess,” defended her grassroots mobilization work, saying the NRM must fully integrate youth in implementing its “Protecting the Gains” manifesto.

“Mzee should ensure that all lost sheep and Bazukulu are herded back to the kraal. The youth are the biggest gain of the NRM and must be mobilized and motivated into productivity,” Aliyinza emphasized.

Assistant RDC Batambuze commended the youth for their renewed commitment and promised to support their initiatives through government programs.

“We welcome your positive energy and resolve to embrace Mzee and Mama Kadaga as NRM pillars. Through your sister Aliyinza, we shall support your poultry and chapati projects with inputs and technical help,” Batambuze said.
