Buyende, Uganda: The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among, has appealed to striking teachers to return to classrooms, assuring them that their grievances have not only been heard but also seen by the government, and that negotiations are actively ongoing to address salary disparities.

Hon Among, who is also the NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson, made the appeal while addressing NRM flagbearers, local leaders, and residents at Irundu Town Council in Budiope East, Buyende District, on Monday, where she also rallied the Busoga sub-region to consolidate its historical support for President Yoweri Museveni.

The Speaker said that while the teachers’ demands were genuine, they should reflect on the plight of the innocent learners who have become “soft targets” in the ongoing industrial action, emphasizing that dialogue remains the best path forward.

“Busoga has been massively voting for Mzee, and we need to rediscover this support for a stronger bargaining power,” Among rallied.

She urged the Basoga community to embrace government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and other wealth creation initiatives to accelerate the country’s journey toward middle-income status.

“We need to focus on consolidating and protecting the gains achieved under the NRM’s transformative leadership. Let’s rally behind President Museveni for his visionary leadership. All the progress, infrastructure, roads, and electricity projects are being implemented under his guidance,” she emphasized.

Ms Among was accompanied by Buyende District Woman MP NRM flagbearer Sarah Namulondo. They both pledged to liaise with the party to deliver special development programs for the district.
