Rev Canon Grace Lubaale Elected 4th Bishop of Busoga Diocese

Kampala, Uganda: The House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda has elected Rev. Canon Associate Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale as the 4th Bishop of Busoga Diocese, during a sitting held Tuesday, October 07, at the Lweza Training and Conference Centre in Entebbe, Wakiso District.

Dr. Lubaale will be consecrated and enthroned on December 14, 2025, at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja, marking a new chapter in the spiritual leadership of one of Uganda’s most historic dioceses.

Born on October 9, 1978, in Bugombya Zone, Butansi Parish, Kamuli District, Rev. Canon Dr. Lubaale gave his life to Christ in December 1994.

He was ordained a Deacon in the Diocese of Kampala in 2008, priested in 2009, and later installed as Canon of Education and Training at All Saints Cathedral Kampala on November 1, 2024.

A seasoned theologian and academic, Dr. Lubaale holds a PhD in Development Studies, Master of Arts in Theology, Master of Arts in Development Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts with Education.

He is married to Clare Louise Atuheirwe, and together they are blessed with four children.

Provincial Tribunal Commissioned

In a related development, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, also commissioned the Provincial Tribunal at the same sitting, with the new committe set to handle disputes within the Church.

The team includes Canon Naboth Muhairwe, the Provincial Chancellor and Chairperson, Bishop Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa (Ankole Diocese), Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe (North Kigezi Diocese), Bishop Pons Awinjo Ozelle (Nebbi Diocese), Bishop James Bukomeko (Mityana Diocese), Bishop George Turyasingura (East Ruwenzori Diocese), and Bishop John Wilson Nandaah (Mbale Diocese).

Representing the laity and clergy are Justice Hellen Obura and The Very Rev. Canon Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye, respectively.

The Tribunal’s members underwent an orientation session led by Supreme Court Justice Mike Chibita before being formally inaugurated.

The Archbishop commended the members for accepting to serve, saying the Tribunal is essential for maintaining integrity, accountability, and justice within the Church.
