Adjumani, Uganda: The Police in West Nile’s Adjumani District have launched a manhunt for a 47-year-old farmer accused of killing his wife during a violent domestic dispute allegedly fueled by alcohol.
The suspect, identified as Obol Joseph, a resident of Aliwara Village in Mungula Parish, Itirikwo Sub-County, remains on the run following the fatal assault of his 43-year-old wife, Amony Night, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
According to a statement from Adjumani Central Police Station, the incident occurred at around 4:00 p.m., with local authorities receiving the report just 25 minutes later.

“It is reported that on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at around 1600 hours, the suspect and the deceased, who are husband and wife, were intoxicated and engaged in a dispute. During the altercation, the suspect assaulted the deceased, resulting in her losing consciousness. Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene, leaving the victim at home,” said SP Asea.
Residents, drawn by the commotion, rushed to assist and attempted to transport Night to Apaa (Laime) Medical and Maternity Home for treatment. Tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Relatives of the deceased have made arrangements to transfer her body to Gulu Military Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
The incident adds to the growing list of gender-based violence (GBV) cases across rural Uganda, where alcohol-related domestic altercations have led to multiple fatalities.
Police reiterated their warning against excessive alcohol consumption and domestic abuse, emphasizing community vigilance and early reporting of potential violence.
