Kampala, Uganda: Following the successful hosting of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Heads of State and Government in January 2024, Uganda is once again set to welcome global leaders for another high-level engagement — the NAM Midterm Ministerial Review Meeting, scheduled for October 13–16, 2025, at the magnificent Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The meeting, themed “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,” will draw Foreign Affairs Ministers from NAM Member States, alongside representatives of Observer Countries and Organizations, to deliberate on key global challenges facing the developing world.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, preparations are in advanced stages, with multiple Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) working collaboratively to ensure a seamless and successful conference.
Officials say the Munyonyo meeting will serve as a critical platform for reviewing progress made since the Kampala Summit and setting new priorities on peace, development, and global justice for the Global South.
Among the top agenda issues to be discussed are: NAM’s relevance amid rising geopolitical tensions and the safeguarding of peace, security, human rights, and the rule of law;
The centrality of the Palestine question and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with urgent appeals for aid and support to UNRWA; Full implementation of UN General Assembly Resolution ES-10/27 (June 12, 2025), which calls for an end to the Gaza blockade and the facilitation of humanitarian assistance as well as the eradication of global poverty within the framework of the UN 2030 Agenda and SDG 17, with renewed commitment to the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and Sevilla Commitment;
Reform of global governance systems, including the UN Security Council and international financial institutions, to ensure fair representation for developing nations and Strengthening of Africa’s voice within the UN system, reaffirming the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration will also form part of the key highlights of this meeting.
The Government of Uganda has reassured the public and stakeholders that all logistical and security arrangements are in place. Controlled access and traffic management measures will be implemented around the Munyonyo area to ensure smooth movement of delegates.
“Uganda is once again proud to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue among developing nations,” a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said, noting that the event reaffirms Uganda’s pivotal role in championing multilateralism, peace, and development within the Global South.
Established in 1961, the Non-Aligned Movement is the world’s largest coalition of states outside formal military or political blocs, comprising 120 Member States. Uganda assumed the NAM Chairmanship in 2024 under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, ushering in a new phase of South-South cooperation and solidarity.
The Munyonyo Midterm Review is expected to produce key outcome documents that will guide NAM’s strategic agenda ahead of the XX NAM Summit in Uzbekistan.
