Pallisa, Uganda: The Bukedi North Regional Police has clarified that no arrest was made against Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga, the Common Man’s Party (CMP) presidential candidate, during his campaign visit to Pallisa on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North Police spokesperson, described the incident as a routine security redirection to ensure adherence to campaign guidelines.
Munyagwa, one of eight candidates challenging President Yoweri Museveni in the January 2026 elections, arrived in Pallisa Town Council at around 11 a.m. He began with a two-hour planning meeting at YNM Hotel along Pallisa-Tirinyi Road before heading toward the rally venue at Kalaki Primary School playground in Kaucho Ward.
According to police, Munyagwa attempted to divert to JCS Eatery for lunch but was intercepted by Regional Police Commander SSP Otim and escorted to the school grounds without incident. “No arrests or serious incidents occurred, and the situation remains calm,” ASP Kyempasa confirmed.
At Kalaki, Munyagwa addressed a small crowd, distributing CMP caps and vuvuzelas during a brief press briefing. Police attributed the limited turnout and lack of a public address system to poor planning by campaign agents, including Okoboi John, who notified authorities of the venue only at 10:30 a.m.
Munyagwa departed Pallisa at 3:30 p.m. ASP Kyempasa urged all candidates’ teams to submit detailed rally programs in advance to improve security coordination ahead of the 2026 campaign trail.
