Kampala, Uganda: Gideon ‘Nova’ Kwikiriza, the President of Ugandans on X (UOX), has officially joined the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) under Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, marking a significant political shift within Uganda’s online youth movement.

In a statement released Friday, October 10, via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Kwikiriza said his decision followed years of personal reflection and disillusionment with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), a party he said he supported “by default” due to his upbringing in Kiruhura District.

“For a long time, I have been hesitant to align myself with any political party. Being born and raised in Kiruhura, I supported NRM by default. It was all I knew, and in many ways, it felt like the only acceptable choice,” Kwikiriza wrote.

“But around 2016, something within me changed. My eyes began to open. I started to see the injustices, the corruption, and the deliberate suppression of potential that continues to cripple our nation.”

Kwikiriza explained that his move to ANT stemmed from the party’s strong ideological foundation and focus on values-driven politics. “Yes, it may not be the most popular party, but it stands on solid ground, built on values, principles, and a clear ideology capable of transforming this nation. I do not advocate for mere change; I advocate for fundamental change,” he added.

Known for his social philanthropic work on social media, Kwikiriza expressed confidence in ANT’s discipline and leadership ethos under Gen Muntu, which he said aligns with his vision for a just and accountable Uganda.

“I am convinced that the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) is prepared, disciplined, and visionary enough to lead Uganda toward that transformation,” he noted.

Kwikiriza’s new party, The ANT, gave him a warm welcome to the party, saying, “Your courage to choose principle over popularity and to stand for values-driven politics is truly inspiring. We are honoured to have you among a growing family of Ugandans committed to disciplined, visionary & transformative leadership.”

Kwikiriza concluded his statement with a firm declaration: “Today, I proudly and officially declare myself a member of the mighty Alliance for National Transformation.”

The announcement by the UOX leader has since stirred debate across social media, with several Ugandans on X applauding the move as a sign of political maturity and a shift toward issue-based activism among the country’s digital youth,” one Kigozi Simon commented on the X post.

Ashaba Justus also commented saying, “You couldn’t have chosen a better place to belong. In the @TheAllianceUG, we believe the real fundamental change will be brought to our motherland Uganda. #ChangeYouCanTrust”

“Undoubtedly, when it comes to meaningful speeches among all the presidential candidates, @mugishamuntu stands out. @KwikirizaNova, you indeed took the right direction. I’m sure for most people here, it’s about numbers and bandwagon,” Micheal Ainembabazi wrote.
