Lusaka, Zambia: Uganda has been selected to host the 2026 edition of the Digital Government Africa Summit (DGA), following an outstanding presentation by its delegation at this year’s summit in Lusaka, Zambia.

The announcement came on October 9, coinciding with Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations, marking a continental recognition of the country’s growing leadership in digital governance.

The 2025 summit, chaired by Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, brought together over 56 African governments and technology industry leaders under the theme of advancing public-sector digital transformation in line with the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030).

Uganda’s successful bid was spearheaded by the National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U), in collaboration with Africabrians, the initiative’s organizing partner. The team delivered a compelling presentation showcasing Uganda’s progress in e-governance, data protection, and digital inclusion.

The Ugandan delegation was led by Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance, alongside Hon. Gen. David Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs.

Other key members of the delegation included: Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director, NITA-U, Ms. Rosemary Kisembo, Executive Director, National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), Mr. Ambrose Ruyooka, Acting Commissioner for ICT Research and Development, Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, and Ms. Gloria Katuuku, Director of Planning, Research and Development, NITA-U

The summit aims to accelerate Africa’s transition toward digitally integrated governance systems and position Uganda as a regional leader in ICT innovation, cybersecurity, and citizen-centric digital service delivery.
