Zombo District: The Alur Kingdom’s central organizing council has called for unity and collective support from all Alur people as preparations intensify for the 15th coronation anniversary of His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Rauni Olarker III, slated for October 31 at Paidha Primary Teachers College Grounds in Paidha Town Council.
Speaking after a planning meeting at Daudi Courts on Sunday, October 12, the Kingdom’s Minister of Health and Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee, Dr. Amos Nyathirombu, said preparations were on track and urged all Alur citizens in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the diaspora to contribute towards the success of the event.
“This is a sacred moment to honor our King and our heritage. Let us come together to set a powerful example of unity and devotion,” Dr. Nyathirombu said, adding that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the event as the Chief Guest.
The 2025 coronation anniversary will run under the theme “Alur Culture for Wealth Creation”, hosted by Kal Omua Chiefdom in Paidha. The theme highlights the potential of Alur’s rich cultural heritage and fertile lands to foster economic growth through agriculture and cultural tourism.
Dr. Nyathirombu appealed to corporate organizations, institutions, NGOs, and community-based organizations to support the celebration through sponsorships and contributions, emphasizing that the Kingdom had already received pledges from several well-wishers and leaders across the region.
John Pascal Wapokra, the Kingdom’s Minister of Lands and Vice Chairperson of the Central Organizing Council, called upon all sub-council heads to intensify mobilization efforts. “This celebration is not just for Paidha but for the entire Alur Kingdom. Let us stand together and make this a memorable milestone in our history,” he said.
Vincent Orach Ocaya, the Kingdom’s Executive Director, encouraged schools to engage students in cultural activities such as traditional dances, dramas, poems, and folk songs to strengthen their connection to Alur identity. “Our heritage must live through the young generation,” Ocaya said.
In addition to cultural showcases, the Kingdom has launched community activities including the ‘Kopu P’u Bimu’ sports tournament and the MTN Ker-Alur Bicycle Run 2025, both aimed at promoting unity and excitement among Alur youth and communities.
Youth activist Sam Rwothomio, an LCIII aspirant for Paidha Town Council, urged young people to take pride in their culture, while Adong Sarah, a Zombo Woman MP aspirant, called for collective participation regardless of political or social differences.
The Alur Kingdom, spanning 56 chiefdoms in Uganda and eight in the DRC, has a population of millions who share a common cultural identity.
The 2025 celebration follows last year’s successful anniversary hosted in Parombo Town Council, Nebbi District, continuing the Kingdom’s rotational tradition established by His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Rauni Olarker III.
