Madi-Okollo, Uganda: President Museveni has reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to expand physical and social infrastructure in Madi-Okollo District, citing significant progress made in roads, education, and water access, alongside ongoing efforts to reduce household poverty under the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Speaking at his rally at Ajai Stadium in Madi-Okollo District on Monday afternoon, the President expressed pleasure with visible signs of progress, including electricity connections, murram roads, and increased mobile phone access, which he described as “a solid foundation for development built on peace and security.”

“When I visit Madi-Okollo and see electricity poles, a functioning murrum road, and people using phones, I feel very happy. If we are elected in the upcoming government, physical and social infrastructure will definitely be expanded,” Museveni said.

He revealed that Madi-Okollo currently has 95 primary schools, with 69 funded by government, and 16 secondary schools serving 32 out of the district’s 46 parishes.

The President also noted that all 223 villages in the district have access to safe water, and the government is working to increase water capacity for production by establishing solar-powered irrigation systems in Aliboro, an earth dam in Yachi, and a communal valley tank in Peera.

Mr Museveni attributed the interventions as part of the NRM’s deliberate efforts guided by politics rooted in Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Democracy, and Socio-economic transformation.

“Our next priority, which we have already begun working on, is reducing household poverty. So far, UGX 14 billion has been disbursed to Madi-Okollo under the PDM scheme,” he said.

The President added that the government is promoting fish farming as a key income source for communities near water bodies, including those in Madi-Okollo, to create sustainable livelihoods.
“For areas near water, like Madi Okollo, the NRM has exciting plans centred around fish farming, which is a valuable resource,” he concluded.
