Kampala, Uganda: The business community in Ntinda, a Kampala City suburb in Nakawa Division, is in mourning following the brutal death of one Agie, a young fashion entrepreneur who crashed dead on the tarmac after he was violently attacked on Saturday night by suspected thugs riding a bodaboda.
Agie, the proprietor of Agie Fashions Men’s Wear Boutique located near Romeo’s Restaurant, opposite Total Ntinda, was on her way home when two assailants on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her handbag, but she fought back to thwart their mission, in what police have described as a case of attempted robbery gone wrong.
According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased is said to have attempted resisting the robbery by holding onto her bag tightly, but the attackers forcefully pulled her off the bodaboda, causing her to hit her head hard on the tarmac.
In the aftermath of the crash, Agie sustained a severe head injury and was pronounced dead moments later.
While the Police at Ntinda said they have since launched investigations into the incident, there was yet to be an official statement on the incident from the Kampala Metropolitan Police at the time of filing this story.
But authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as calls grow louder for tighter security and street surveillance in Ntinda and surrounding areas to combat the surge in bodaboda-related crimes.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the Ntinda business community, where Agie was admired for her hard work, humility, and passion for fashion. Friends, clients, and fellow traders took to social media with emotional tributes, describing her as a “self-made woman with a golden heart.”
Agie’s tragic death adds to a growing list of victims of kifeesi gangs—motorcycle-riding thugs notorious for robbing pedestrians and motorists across Kampala.
