MTN Uganda gives Kigezi Diocese Shs 50 million for Revival Convention

MTN Uganda's Dorcus Muhwezi (C) hands over Shs 50 million to Kigezi Diocese leadership to support the 9th East African Revival Convention.

Kigezi, Uganda: MTN Uganda has delivered a Shs 50 million donation to the Diocese of Kigezi, supporting preparations for the recently concluded 9th East African Revival Convention.

The donation was handed over on Tuesday, October 14, following a request by former Prime Ministers Rt Hon Ruhakana Rugunda and Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi, who co-chaired the convention’s preparatory meetings.

Speaking during the handover, Dorcus Muhwezi, MTN Uganda’s General Manager for Customer Experience, said the contribution is part of the company’s corporate social investment to uplift communities across Uganda.

She added that the funds were strategically directed to the Diocese to strengthen the organization and success of the convention.

“MTN Uganda is proud to support initiatives that foster spiritual growth and community development. This donation is intended to help the Diocese prepare effectively for this and future revival events,” Ms Muhwezi said.

The Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, commended MTN Uganda for its support, noting that the funds will also be used to advance other diocesan activities in health, education, and development, as the Diocese prepares for the 2035 East African Revival Convention.

The Head of Laity, Can Johnson Baryantuma Munono, and Head of the House of Clergy, Rev Canon Rueben Byomuhangi, described the donation as a clear endorsement of the East African Revival’s impact on spiritual growth in Uganda. They further praised the government for providing a conducive environment that enables companies like MTN Uganda to engage in community development initiatives.

The East African Revival Convention, which attracted thousands of Christians from across the region, is a significant spiritual event that celebrates renewal, fellowship, and the historic revival movement that began in Kigezi nearly a century ago.
