Museveni commissions Leju Stadium in Terego, calls for focus on wealth creation

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni waves to residents after commissioning Leju Sports Stadium in Terego District. The stadium is expected to boost local sports, youth engagement, and economic opportunities.

Terego, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the NRM Presidential flagbearer, on Thursday commissioned the newly constructed Leju Sports Stadium in Terego District, marking a milestone in the region’s infrastructural development.

The stadium opening was followed by a rally attended by thousands of residents and party supporters. Museveni commended the people of Terego for their support and emphasized the importance of shifting focus toward wealth creation, now that infrastructure has been delivered.

“Today, I will speak about only three of the seven key points,” said Museveni. “The first is peace, something the NRM has delivered for the first time in over 500 years of this country’s history.”

The President recounted Uganda’s historical periods, noting the peace under the Bachwezi dynasty between 900 and 1400 A.D., followed by eras of conflict, until British colonial administration. Museveni highlighted that sustainable peace in Uganda has been achieved since 2007, enabling political stability and laying a foundation for prosperity.

He urged Terego residents to leverage available infrastructure and security to generate wealth and improve livelihoods, while emphasizing the importance of embracing Operation Wealth Creation and other government programs.

Hon. Obiga Kania, State Minister for Internal Affairs and NRM Chairperson for Terego District, thanked the President for investing in sports and other development projects. He also presented local development needs, urging Museveni to prioritize West Nile in future plans.

Babanga Wilfred Erima, NRM flagbearer for Terego East, lauded Museveni as a “promise keeper,” highlighting the need for a youth skilling hub to prevent migration in search of opportunities and to strengthen families.

He also called for the fast-tracking of delayed road projects, including the Manibe–Yumbe and Manibe–Rhino Camp roads.

Eric Sabiti Dramviko, NRM flagbearer for Terego West, thanked Museveni for granting district status to Terego. He requested that once the moratorium on new administrative units is lifted, the government approve additional town councils to ease administrative strain and improve service delivery.
