One dead as bus, motorcycle collide on Nebbi–Arua highway

Residents gathered infront of the Nile Star Bus that crashed with motorcycle in a fatal collision along the Nebbi–Arua City highway on Thursday morning.

Arua City, Uganda: One person died on the spot following a fatal road crash involving a Nile Star Bus and a motorcycle along the Nebbi–Arua City highway on Thursday morning, prompting an investigation by the Arua Central Police Traffic Office.

The accident occurred at around 7:35 a.m. in Awindiri Cell, Arua Central Division, when a yellow and green Isuzu bus (Reg. UBF 182W) operated by Nile Star Bus Company collided with a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (Reg. UFW 068Q) ridden by Alioma Robert, who died shortly after the crash.

According to SSP Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, preliminary reports indicate that the bus was traveling from Kampala to Arua when the motorcyclist made an abrupt right turn, crossing into the bus’s path.

“Reckless riding was the primary cause of this tragedy,” SSP Angucia said. “We continue to urge motorcyclists to exercise vigilance and avoid abrupt maneuvers on busy highways.”

Arua traffic police officers quickly secured the scene and towed both vehicles to Arua Central Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). A sketch plan of the scene was drawn, and the injured were evacuated to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish full liability and reinforce safety compliance along the Nebbi–Arua road, which has recently recorded an increase in fatal crashes.
