Queen Amolo’s homecoming sparks new political wave in Oyam

Queen Amolo, who arrived in Uganda a week ago, is currently finalizing preparations in Kampala before heading north for what organizers describe as “a celebration of unity, empowerment, and renewal of hope.”

Oyam, Uganda: Excitement is sweeping through Oyam South County ahead of the much-anticipated homecoming of Queen Dorothy Amolo, a U.S.-based entrepreneur and aspiring Member of Parliament for Oyam South Constituency.

The charismatic politician, known for her development-driven initiatives and strong grassroots following, is set to make her grand return to Kamdini Town Council on October 18, 2025.

Amolo, who arrived in Uganda a week ago, is currently finalizing preparations in Kampala before heading north for what organizers describe as “a celebration of unity, empowerment, and renewal of hope.”

The mood across Oyam South is electric, with communities mobilizing in anticipation of the homecoming. Tom Arac, chairperson of the organizing committee, said residents are putting final touches on decorations while cultural troupes rehearse traditional performances.

“People from all walks of life are coming together to honor Queen Amolo’s return. It’s not just a homecoming — it’s a statement of hope and solidarity,” Arac said.

Local residents say the event will feature music, dance, poetry, and drama, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Oyam. Richard Amuku from Wirao Parish noted that the community is ready to demonstrate the strength and beauty of their traditions, while Richard Ojok (Ojok Ojaga) from Minakulu Sub-county described the occasion as “our moment to celebrate one of our own.”

A Political Journey Marked by Resilience
Queen Amolo first contested for the Oyam South parliamentary seat in 2021, emerging second behind Gender Minister Betty Amongi, who won with 27,024 votes against Amolo’s 14,883. Despite the loss, her strong showing established her as a formidable political figure.

In 2023, she shifted her interest to the Oyam North seat following the tragic death of Rtd. Col. Charles Okello Engola Mac-Odwogo, with whom she had partnered on several community development projects.

Although she later withdrew from the race after failing to secure the NRM party flag — which was instead given to the late MP’s son, Samuel Engola — Amolo earned widespread respect for her humility and commitment to unity.

Now, in 2026, Amolo is returning to her roots in Oyam South, determined to contest as an independent candidate. She will face a competitive field that includes Patrick Ogwang Obura (NRM), Geoffery Owilli (UPC), Nommy Otyeno (Oyam District Speaker), and Isaac Otoo Amiza, among others.

Driving Development Through Action
Beyond politics, Queen Amolo has already started transforming lives in Oyam South through self-funded community projects. In Kamdini Sub-county, she spearheaded the rehabilitation of a 17-kilometre community access road connecting Juma Parish to Zambia Parish, easing transportation for farmers and school-going children.

Residents of Amati A and B villages hailed her for the initiative, saying it has restored accessibility and reduced transport costs. Jimmy Oryang, a local resident, noted that poor roads had previously contributed to school dropouts and insecurity, while Patrick Otyeno, LC1 Chairperson of Amati “A”, said the improved road network is now linking Kamdini, Minakulu, and Myene sub-counties and boosting trade.

Amolo revealed plans to rehabilitate 16 more community access roads across the constituency to improve connectivity and service delivery. “When roads are accessible, people can go to school, reach health centers, and take produce to the market with ease,” she said.

Her broader agenda focuses on education, health, infrastructure, and trade, promising to blend her international experience with local needs to drive sustainable development in Oyam South.

As her October 18 homecoming draws near, expectations are high that Queen Amolo’s return will reenergize the political landscape and inspire renewed hope among her supporters.
