Mukono, Uganda: The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, on Saturday evening, narrowly escaped a motor accident after a speeding trailer nearly rammed into her convoy along the Kampala–Jinja highway.
According to Chris Obore, the Parliament’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the incident occurred at about 5:45 pm in Mukono District as the Speaker was returning to Kampala from Bugweri District, where she had gone to mobilize support for President Museveni in her capacity as the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female).
Obore explained that the trailer, which was heading towards Jinja, suddenly swerved into the Speaker’s lane after several vehicles in her convoy had already passed. The Speaker’s driver swiftly maneuvered to the road’s edge, narrowly avoiding what could have been a fatal crash.
DailyExpress has learnt that the Police in Mukono rushed to the scene and detained the trailer driver, identified as Lubega Ivan (32), and his co-driver, Waiswa Amis, to assist in ongoing investigations.
Obore confirmed that no injuries or damage were reported, and Speaker Among safely continued her journey to Kampala following the incident.
Authorities have opened inquiries to establish the exact cause of the swerve, with investigators exploring whether the incident resulted from reckless driving or mechanical failure.
