Thousands storm Bugweri rally as Speaker Among declares Museveni still people’s choice

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among addressing thousands of NRM supporters in Idudi Town Council, Bugweri District, during a mobilization rally for President Museveni and the NRM party.

Bugweri, Uganda: The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, Saturday rallied thousands of residents in Idudi Town Council, Bugweri District, to consolidate support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Among, who also serves as the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the NRM, urged locals to remain steadfast behind President Museveni, emphasizing the government’s achievements in education, infrastructure, and socio-economic transformation.

“Despite challenges being faced by the NRM government, there are key milestones that have transformed livelihoods — from UPE and USE to improved road infrastructure and the Parish Development Model (PDM) that is turning households into participants in the money economy,” she said.

Bugweri District, which was carved out of Iganga District in 2018 after lobbying by prominent leaders including the late Hajj Kirunda Kivejinja, remains one of Museveni’s strongest political bases in the Busoga sub-region.

The rally attracted several legislators, including Hon. Ssentaayi Muhammed (Bukoto West), Hon. Racheal Magoola (DWR Bugweri District), and Hon. Daudi Kabanda (Kasambya County), among others.

The Speaker’s campaign is part of her wider mobilization trail across Busoga and Teso sub-regions, aimed at galvanizing grassroots structures for the ruling party.

Notably, the long-dormant Office of the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, headed by Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, was again visibly active at the Bugweri rally, just a day after staging a massive mobilization event in Mayuge District.
