Agule Health Institute unveils new bus to support student placements in health training

Agule Institute of Health Sciences and Management and clergy praying for the new bus unveiled to boost nursing and midwifery student placements in Pallisa, Butebo, and Kibuku districts.

Pallisa, Uganda: Agule Institute of Health Sciences and Management in North Bukedi region marked a milestone over the weekend, with a mega thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate the school’s exceptional performance and unveiling a newly acquired bus to enhance student placements in nursing and midwifery across Pallisa, Butebo, and Kibuku districts.

The ceremony was led by Ven. Rev. Wasike James, Archdeacon of Pallisa Archdeaconry in Bukedi Diocese, who reminded students that nursing and midwifery is a calling and urged them to commit themselves to serving communities with dedication.

“I am pleased that the students of this institution are committed to their work during placements, as confirmed by feedback from the communities they serve,” Rev. Wasike said.

Mrs. Rose Ochwa, Resident Executive Director, said the thanksgiving was organized to acknowledge God’s guidance and to celebrate the acquisition of the bus, which will facilitate the smooth transport of students to health facilities.

“In this institute, we put God first. That is why we invited religious leaders from various denominations to share in this prayer,” Mrs. Ochwa said.

Agule Deputy Principal Ms. Amito Rita highlighted that the new bus will reduce delays and improve student access to placements.

“Our other vehicles previously made three or four trips to ferry students. This new bus completes the journey in a single trip,” she said.

Abraham Okurut, a resident of Agule Town Council, praised Hon. Ochwa David, Agule County MP, for founding the school in 2013, emphasizing the school’s role in generating employment and boosting local trade.

“With over 70 staff and 700 students, the school has created a strong market for local produce, including maize, beans, and fruits, benefiting the community,” Okurut said.

Rev. Father Rogers Wekono of Chelekura Catholic Parish prayed for the bus, blessing the school’s directors, lecturers, students, and staff for their service to the community.
