Alur artists, schools gear up for Alur King’s 15th coronation anniversary

Paidha, Uganda: Renowned Alur artists, including Lucky Dee, Bushy Da King, and Queen Ashley D, are set to perform at the 15th Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty Ubimu Philip Rauni Olarker III, scheduled for October 31, 2025.

The event, themed “Alur Culture for Wealth Creation,” will be hosted by the Kal Omua Chiefdom at the historic grounds of the former Paidha Primary Teachers College in Paidha Town Council in West Nile’s Zombo District.

James Jawotho, overseer of the performances, confirmed on Monday, October 20, that the celebration will also feature two acclaimed artists from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Schools such as Charity College Paidha, Divine Mercy Nursery and Primary School, Nebbi Secondary School, and Pakwach Secondary School will perform the sacred Alur Anthem, alongside cultural expressions including riddles, proverbs, and traditional dances.

“We have secured revered artists like Lucky Dee, Bushy Da King, Queen Ashley D, alongside schools to showcase the Alur Anthem and other cultural performances,” Jawotho said, promising more details ahead of the anniversary.

Bushy Da King’s iconic song Ker Alur pays homage to the Ubimu, while Lucky Dee’s compositions honor His Majesty and the Alur heritage. Queen Ashley D’s folk songs reflect the Kingdom’s traditions, preserving Alur cultural identity through music.

Vincent Orach Ocaya, Executive Director of the Alur Kingdom, called on school leaders to immerse students in cultural training to foster participation in the Alur Anthem, folk songs, dramas, and traditional dances.

The annual Ker Alur celebration draws thousands of participants, featuring vibrant performances by cultural troupes that bring the Alur Kingdom’s 400-year legacy to life. Preparations for this year’s milestone anniversary include grand banners of His Majesty Ubimu Philip Rauni Olarker III across Nebbi, Paidha, Zombo, and plans to extend the display to Nyaravur, Parombo, and Mahagi in the DRC.

Dr. Amos Nyahirombu, Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee, urged Alur subjects worldwide to contribute generously to ensure the event’s success.

High-level preparatory meetings have already been conducted, including one on October 18, 2025, at Skylux Motel in Paidha Town Council, bringing together community leaders and DRC representatives to finalize plans.

John Pascal Wapokra, a prominent Alur leader, and Gilbert Jakwonga, Headteacher of Divine Mercy Nursery and Primary School, emphasized the importance of instilling cultural pride among students through traditional dances and performances.

This year’s anniversary, part of a rotational tradition set by His Majesty, follows the 2023 celebration in Parombo Town Council, Nebbi District, continuing the Kingdom’s commitment to preserving and promoting Alur heritage.
