Museveni highlights peace, development gains in Amuru as Acholi campaign trail kicks off

Amuru, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday evening opened his week-long tour of the Acholi Subregion with a rally in Amuru, emphasizing the centrality of peace to development and highlighting major local achievements.

“Today in Amuru, as I presented part of our manifesto, I began with what matters most: peace. Without peace, there are no schools, no hospitals, no salaries, no future. Peace is the soil in which all development grows,” President Museveni said in a brief statement on X after addressing the rally at Pabbo Primary School.

The President reminded residents of Acholi how the region has progressed over the years, citing population growth and improved access to essential services.

“From the 16,000 people of Kilak in the Constituent Assembly days, we have grown to 247,000 today—strong and healthy. In Pabbo, over 38,000 residents now enjoy piped water, and every village has a safe water source,” Museveni noted, adding “We shall soon extend this to more towns, complete solar irrigation schemes, and build reservoirs for year-round farming.”

The Acholi tour marks the start of a series of engagements where the President will outline the NRM manifesto and highlight development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in Northern Uganda.

The President will tomorrow, Tuesday October 21, pitch camp in Nwoya and Omoro, the latter being the home district of late speaker Jacob Oulanyah, whom Museveni had instructed during the last campaign season of 2020 to oversee inquiries, and issued multiple executive orders regarding the Balaalo before his demise in 2021.

Each district in Acholi is expected to present a memorandum outlining previous pledges and new expectations for the president during his campaign.
