Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: The Namuwongo Blazers stormed into the Elite 16 round of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers after thrashing Comoros’ Djabal Club 132–58 in a dominant display at the IST Gymnasium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, October 19.
The Ugandan side, who had earlier lost 83–70 to hosts Dar City, came into the decisive tie with a single mission – to win and advance. From tip-off, the Blazers made their intent clear, outpacing and outmuscling Djabal with sharp shooting, intense defense, and high-tempo offense.
Peter Obleng delivered a standout career performance, scoring a game-high 39 points with seven three-pointers out of eight attempts, plus four assists. His acrobatic dunks and blistering shooting from range electrified the crowd as he inspired the Blazers’ relentless charge.
Captain Jimmy Enabu anchored the team’s play with an impressive double-double of 13 points and 11 assists, while Moses Mugisha added 11 points and 3 rebounds. New signings Joseph Obasa and Jaycson Bereal also impressed, contributing 10 points apiece — Bereal adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists to his tally.
By the end of the first quarter, the Blazers had already built a commanding 31–10 lead, stretching it to 63–24 by halftime. Djabal struggled to match the Ugandan side’s rhythm and coordination, as Namuwongo’s bench players maintained the offensive intensity throughout.
Though Djabal managed a more spirited third quarter, it was too little, too late. Obleng returned to seal the show with four more three-pointers in the final minutes, wrapping up a near-perfect performance that confirmed the Blazers’ qualification in emphatic fashion.
The Namuwongo Blazers now advance to the Elite 16 stage of the Road to BAL 2026, set for November, where they will face Africa’s top basketball clubs for a place in next year’s Basketball Africa League group stage.
