Hoima City, Uganda: The long-awaited Hoima City Stadium has officially been completed, marking a major milestone in Uganda’s sports infrastructure drive ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Built by Turkish construction giant SUMMA, the $129 million facility stands as one of Uganda’s most modern sporting complexes.

The stadia boasts a 20,000-seater main stadium, a 2,000-capacity indoor arena, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, multiple training pitches, and outdoor courts designed to host a wide range of disciplines.

According to State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, the project was fully funded through Uganda’s oil revenues and is a central component of the country’s preparations to co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

The stadium features state-of-the-art facilities such as LED lighting that displays Uganda’s national colors; black, yellow, and red, across its exterior, and a world-class parquet floor in the indoor arena.

Officials said construction of the stadium was completed ahead of schedule, following months of steady progress on major works including roofing, floodlight installation, seating, and landscaping.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to officially commission the facility in December during his campaign tour of the Bunyoro sub-region, when it will be officially handed over to the government.
