Bugolobi, Kampala: Uganda Premier League side NEC Football Club has suspended head coach Hussein Mbalangu for two months over alleged involvement in the Masaza Cup tournament with Ssaza team Ssingo, a move described by the club as a breach of professional conduct.

The club confirmed the decision through its official social media channels, citing disciplinary grounds after Mbalangu’s role with Ssingo, who recently qualified for the final of the ongoing Masaza Cup tournament.

Mbalangu’s suspension comes at a difficult time for NEC, who have struggled early in the 2024/25 campaign, managing only two points from their opening two league fixtures.

The Bugolobi-based side opened the season with a 1–1 draw against URA FC at Nakivubo Stadium before blowing a two-goal lead to draw 2–2 with Police FC at Lugogo.

Their woes extended to continental competition, where NEC were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup by Nairobi United FC of Kenya — a result that intensified scrutiny on Mbalangu before his suspension.

Assistant coach James Odoch has been appointed interim head coach for the two-month period as the team seeks stability ahead of their next league fixture against Entebbe UPPC on Saturday, November 25, at Bugonga Fisheries Ground.
