Katakwi, Uganda: Vice President Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, who also serves as the Katakwi District Woman MP, has been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest for re-election in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections on the NRM ticket.
Alupo was successfully nominated on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. by Katakwi District Returning Officer, Mr. Stephen Makubiya, who declared her eligible to contest for the Woman MP seat.
Makubiya confirmed that campaign activities across the district will officially begin on November 10, 2025, and run until January 13, 2026, ahead of polling.
Speaking shortly after her nomination, the Vice President expressed gratitude to the people of Katakwi for their unwavering support and pledged to continue advancing development programs that benefit all citizens.
“In the past five years, I have worked to support our elderly, youth, women’s groups, and veterans. I am ready to continue serving with dedication and humility to improve the livelihoods of the people of Katakwi,” Alupo said.
She thanked her political opponents for maintaining peace during the nomination exercise and urged all candidates to uphold discipline and unity as campaigns begin.
Strong NRM Mobilization in Katakwi
Following her nomination, Alupo addressed a jubilant crowd at Katakwi Boma Grounds, where hundreds of supporters gathered to celebrate her endorsement.
The NRM District Chairperson John Robert Okiror applauded the Electoral Commission for organizing a smooth nomination process and vowed to mobilize voters to ensure victory for both President Museveni and Vice President Alupo in the district.
“As the NRM fraternity in Katakwi, we are determined to deliver 100% victory for our flag bearers. The people of Katakwi are fully behind the Movement,” Okiror declared.
Several local leaders also commended Alupo’s nomination and pledged support for her campaign.
Richard Ongorok, the NRM flag bearer for Usuk County, and Daniel Mulalu, an independent candidate for Ngariam County, joined the celebrations, praising the Vice President’s leadership and service to the Iteso community.
Calvin Echodu, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, lauded Alupo’s record and confirmed the launch of a Presidential Scholarship Initiative to sponsor five Katakwi students at Soroti University.
Meanwhile, His Highness the Emorimor, Paul Sande Emolot, hailed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for entrusting leadership roles to the Iteso, calling on the community to rally behind both Museveni and Alupo in 2026.
“We thank the President for believing in Iteso leadership. Let us unite behind our daughter, the Vice President, and continue supporting the government’s development agenda,” the Emorimor said.
Fresh Candidates Eye Alupo’s Katakwi Woman MP Seat
Vice President Alupo will face competition from Anuken Angela, Apolot Florence Clare, and Anyakoit Cicilia if all are confirmed by the Electoral Commission.
As of Wednesday evening, the EC in Katakwi had confirmed 13 candidates nominated for both Woman MP and county MP positions.
