Kiryandongo, Uganda: Authorities at Kiryandongo District Local Government have launched the construction of the 6-kilometre Jeeja–Nyama–Kinyonga Road, which has officially been upgraded from a community access route to a district road at a cost of Shs 70 million.
According to Emmanuel Niyonzima, the District Engineer, the scope of works includes bush clearing, shaping, and spot improvement. He noted that once completed, the road will be incorporated into the district’s routine periodic maintenance program.
Speaking to residents at Jeeja Trading Centre during the launch, LCIII Chairperson Olama Isaac Museveni urged locals to desist from moving cattle on the newly upgraded road to preserve its quality and durability.
Museveni commended the community for reviving Burungi Bwansi (voluntary community work), saying it has improved local security and reduced accidents in the sub-county.
Kiryandongo LCV Chairperson, Ms Edith Aliguma Adyeri applauded the LCIs along the route for sourcing and providing murram for the spot improvements. She urged residents to monitor all government programs closely and offer feedback to strengthen service delivery.
While flagging off the road maintenance works, Deputy RDC Jonathan Akweteireho encouraged residents to engage in productive economic activities that would enable them to benefit from the government’s infrastructure investments.
He praised the strong cooperation between political and technical leaders in the district, saying it has contributed to more efficient and transparent service delivery.
