Kiryandongo, Uganda: A tragic multi-vehicle accident involving four vehicles occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Asili Farm in Kitaleba village, along the Kampala-Gulu Highway, leaving several people dead and others critically injured.
According to a police statement from the Albertine North Region Kiryandongo Police Station, the crash happened at around 12:15 a.m. and was caused by reckless overtaking maneuvers.
Police said a yellow Isuzu bus registration number UBF 614X, operated by Nile Star Company en route from Kampala to Arua, attempted to overtake a blue Tata lorry registration number UBK 647C.
At the same time, a blue Isuzu bus registration number UAM 045V, belonging to Planet Company and traveling from Adjumani to Kampala, was overtaking a blue Toyota Land Cruiser with foreign registration CGO 5132AB 07.
“The Planet Company bus driver, unable to complete the overtaking maneuver, swerved into the right lane, leading to a head-on and side collision with the Nile Star bus,” reads part of the police statement.
As a result, the Toyota Land Cruiser and Tata lorry also lost control, overturning several times and plunging into a nearby valley, causing additional deaths and injuries.
Police teams led by the Regional Police Commander, District Police Commander, and traffic officers immediately responded to the scene. The injured were rushed to Kiryandongo General Hospital and nearby health facilities, while bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
A preliminary sketch map of the accident scene has been drawn, and all four vehicles remain at the site awaiting towing to Kiryandongo Police Station for further inspection.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of casualties as investigations continue.
