ZOMBO: D’Ujanga, Adong, among eight nominated for 2026 Parliamentary race

Zombo, Uganda: The Electoral Commission (EC) Wednesday cleared eight parliamentary aspirants in Zombo District for the Okoro County, Ora County, and Woman MP seats as Uganda’s 2026 general election race officially gets underway.

The nominations, part of the nationwide two-day EC exercise that ends Thursday, October 23, turned the Zombo District EC offices on Ofaka Road in Paidha Town Council into a hive of political activity as candidates and supporters thronged the venue in jubilant processions.

The District Returning Officer Emmanuel Ogwang said the first day of nominations proceeded smoothly, with all candidates cleared for the next phase of the campaign. “This is a fair and open process. We urge all candidates to submit their campaign programs early ahead of the harmonization meeting on November 4,” Ogwang stated.

Okoro County Race

Four aspirants were cleared for Okoro County, including Eng. Simon D’Ujanga (Independent), a former State Minister for Energy, who vowed to “resume his legacy” by extending rural electrification and improving governance.

Gabriel Okumu (NRM), the incumbent, promised to consolidate government-backed infrastructure, jobs, and power programs.

Sunday Omirambe (Independent), a journalist and pastor, pledged grassroots unity, transparency, and job creation, while Vincent Orach Ocaya (Independent) based his campaign on youth empowerment and regional economic connectivity.

Ora County Race

Lawrence Songa Biyika (Independent), the incumbent MP, promised to complete ongoing projects in roads, health, and education, while Collins Jakony (People’s Front for Freedom) vowed to strengthen accountability and resource allocation to Ora voters.

Zombo Woman MP Seat

Sarah Adong (Democratic Party) pledged to champion better roads and agrarian transformation for women and youth, while Topista Acamfua (Independent) promised inclusive, unity-driven representation for families and communities.

The exercise precedes the start of the official campaign period on November 10, following the November 4 harmonization meeting.

Nationwide, over 150 parliamentary candidates had been cleared by Wednesday, with the EC projecting at least 1,500 aspirants to be nominated across Uganda’s 353 constituencies and 146 woman representative seats.

The EC, chaired by Justice Simon Byabakama, requires a UGX 3 million nomination fee and at least 10 voter endorsements per candidate.
