Kiryandongo, Uganda: The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, defied multiple attempts to block his convoy and successfully held a massive rally in Bweyale Town Council on Friday, drawing thousands of jubilant supporters in what turned into one of the largest political gatherings in the midwestern district this campaign season.
Earlier in the day, Kyagulanyi’s team encountered disruptions in Kiryandongo Town Council and Nyakadot, where attempts were made by authorities to stop his procession. However, determined NUP supporters stood firm, escorting the opposition leader safely through Kigumba, Kiryandongo Town, and finally to Bweyale, where crowds flooded the streets waving red flags and chanting “People Power! Our Power!”
Despite reports of NRM supporters in yellow T-shirts riding motorcycles around the town allegedly to disrupt the event, the rally proceeded peacefully under tight security, with an overwhelming show of enthusiasm from local residents and party faithful.
‘Ugandans Must Take Charge of Their Future’
In a passionate address, Bobi Wine called upon Ugandans, particularly the youth, to take charge of their future through the ballot box, urging them to end what he described as President Museveni’s prolonged rule. “Uganda has a lot of young people,” Kyagulanyi told the crowd. “It’s time to vote for a young person and not give Mr. Museveni another chance to overstay in power.”
He also urged the people of Bunyoro sub-region to rally behind the National Unity Platform, assuring them that under his leadership, the region would finally benefit from its oil resources and experience “genuine, people-centred development.”
Kyagulanyi further encouraged the youth to use their smartphones and social media platforms to spread the NUP message of democratic change, saying technology could be a powerful tool to unite and mobilize Ugandans for transformation.
“Use your phones, your platforms, and your voices,” he said. “Let us preach the gospel of unity, freedom, and change until the power truly belongs to the people.”

Local Candidates Join the Rallying Call
During the same rally, Hon. Nsubuga Richard, the NUP aspirant for Kiryandongo District LC5 Chairperson, expressed gratitude to residents for supporting both his candidature and Bobi Wine’s presidential campaign.
“I want to thank the people of Kiryandongo for standing firm with us,” Nsubuga said. “Let’s vote for Hon. Kyagulanyi and all NUP candidates across our district and the country in 2026. Together, we shall rebuild Uganda.”
Though not yet cleared by the Kiryandongo District Electoral Commission to contest, Nsubuga reaffirmed his commitment to continue mobilizing for the NUP cause, pledging to “spread the message of change” until victory is achieved. His remarks were met with thunderous applause from the energized crowd.

After concluding the successful rally in Kiryandongo, Bobi Wine and his team proceeded through Masindi Port Ferry, crossing into Apac District for another rally later in the evening. The visit marks a continuation of the NUP leader’s growing nationwide campaign trail as he seeks to consolidate support across Uganda’s northern and midwestern regions ahead of the 2026 general elections.
