One arrested as police foil armed robbery on Mukono highway

Mukono, Uganda: The Uganda Police Force has arrested one suspect following a violent robbery attempt along the Jinja–Kampala highway in Kiwanga Zone, Goma Division, Mukono District, on the night of Saturday, October 25, 2025.

According to a police statement issued Tuesday morning (October 28), a group of organized criminals armed with pangas ambushed and robbed travellers along the busy highway at around 10:31 p.m.

Police from Namanve Division swiftly responded to distress calls and, with support from community members, pursued the gang.

“They found over ten suspects hiding along the roadside. When the suspects attempted to escape, police, assisted by residents, pursued them,” the statement read in part.

During the chase, one suspect, identified as Angolo Abdul, a 22-year-old male, was apprehended after being disabled by police fire.

Angolo is currently in police custody, and his case file is being processed. The matter has been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for legal guidance on appropriate charges.

Police said efforts are underway to track down other suspects who fled the scene during the operation.
