Kyabazinga to VU Graduates: Let education be a tool for change, not just a certificate

His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, addresses the congregation during Victoria University’s 9th Graduation Ceremony at Speke Resort Munyonyo on October 28, 2025.

Munyonyo, Uganda: The Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV, has urged Ugandan youth to use education as a tool for transformation, innovation, and community development, emphasizing that learning without purpose remains incomplete.

Speaking as Chief Guest at the 9th Graduation Ceremony of Victoria University held Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Kyabazinga commended the University for championing a skills-based and technology-driven education model that aligns with Uganda’s development needs.

“Education is not only about earning degrees, but about solving real problems and transforming communities,” His Majesty said. “Our youth must use the knowledge they gain to improve their homes, their regions, and their country.”

The Kyabazinga hailed Victoria University’s Competency-Based Learning approach, which blends practical skills with digital literacy and artificial intelligence (AI) training. He said such models empower young Ugandans to compete globally while remaining relevant locally.

“I commend Victoria University for emphasizing practical learning and for ensuring that every graduate leaves with competence, not just credentials. This is what Uganda needs if we are to fight unemployment and create meaningful livelihoods,” he added.

His Majesty encouraged the graduates to prioritize innovation, entrepreneurship, and service to others. “Your education must not end here. Continue learning, build new skills, and invest your knowledge in transforming the communities that raised you,” he said.

The Kyabazinga also reaffirmed the strategic partnership between his Kingdom and Victoria University, which has rolled out full and partial scholarships for youth in Busoga and plans to launch financial literacy and digital skills programs.

The initiative, launched in June this year, aims to equip young people with the ability to earn, save, invest, and create enterprises, bridging the gap between academic achievement and economic empowerment.

“Scholarships are seeds, but transformation comes from applying what we learn. Together with Victoria University, we will continue investing in education that changes lives,” His Majesty noted.

Muganga Commends Kyabazinga’s Vision

Speaking at the same function, Victoria University Vice Chancellor, Dr Lawrence Muganga, praised the Kyabazinga for his visionary leadership and support toward youth empowerment through education.

“His Majesty believes in education that creates opportunity and prosperity,” he noted. “Our partnership with Busoga Kingdom shows that when leadership and learning unite, transformation follows.”

Dr Muganga reiterated that Victoria University will continue to offer AI literacy, experiential learning, and flexible study modes to make education accessible and employment-oriented for Ugandans from all regions.

Victoria University’s 9th Graduation Ceremony was held under the theme “Shaping Your Future: Innovation, Digital Skills and Employability,” with a total of 2029 graduates receiving degrees, diplomas, and certificates across various disciplines.

University Chancellor Prof. John Opuda-Asubo urged graduates to remain humble, innovative, and purpose-driven. “Proximity to riches may not bring you success. Start small, work hard, and use your education to lift others,” Prof. Opuda said.
