Son hacks father to death after being confronted over immature coffee harvest

Luuka, Uganda: The Territorial Police in Luuka District have arrested a 22-year-old man identified as Giraido Ibra alias Mudoola Brian, a resident of Buzaaya Village, Bulongo Sub-County, for allegedly murdering his biological father, Sango Jaliru, aged 52.

According to the Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson, SSP Lubega Samson, the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, after a domestic altercation over premature coffee harvesting.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the deceased, Sango Jaliru, confronted his son after finding him harvesting immature coffee from his garden located a short distance from their home.

When questioned, the suspect reportedly became aggressive, chased his father for about 250 metres, and upon reaching a nearby homestead belonging to Edith Naiwumbwe, picked a hoe and struck his father from behind, inflicting a deep wound to the head that killed him instantly.

After committing the crime, the suspect allegedly threatened neighbours who attempted to intervene before fleeing the scene.

Police later tracked down and arrested Giraido Ibra at a drinking place in Kiyunga Town Council, where he was found attempting to hide. He is currently detained at Luuka Central Police Station on charges of murder by hacking.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement on the crime incident, SSP Lubega Samson condemned the killing and urged members of the public to seek peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms when faced with family disputes.

“The Uganda Police Force condemns such acts of domestic violence and urges members of the public to resolve family misunderstandings through dialogue or seek assistance from community leaders and local authorities to prevent loss of life,” SSP Lubega said.
