Katakwi, Uganda: The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, has rallied voters in Katakwi District to support visionary leaders and uphold the values of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), emphasizing unity as a cornerstone for development.
Addressing a gathering of party leaders and supporters, the First Lady urged the NRM fraternity to reach out to opposition members and mobilize them to join the ruling party, saying its ideology is founded on peace, stability, and service to the people.
“The NRM has a clear vision and proven record of transforming Uganda. I call upon you to maintain unity and protect the gains we have made as a country,” Maama Janet said.
She reminded the electorate to turn up in large numbers during the forthcoming 2026 general elections and vote to sustain the progress achieved under the NRM government.
“Every vote counts in securing the future we are building together. Let us vote to protect what we have achieved under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” Maama Janet added.
At the same event, Vice President Jessica Alupo, who also serves as the Katakwi District Woman MP, highlighted the achievements of the NRM government in the district.
Alupo cited major investments in health and infrastructure, including the operationalization and expansion of Katakwi General Hospital, improved electricity distribution, and road network upgrades that have enhanced connectivity and service delivery.
“The NRM government has invested heavily in human capital development through the Presidential Skilling Program and Universal Education,” Alupo noted, urging residents to preserve peace and unity as the country heads into the 2026 elections.
Similarly, the NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) and Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among commended President Museveni for addressing insecurity caused by cattle rustling and rebel activities in the region.
She praised the First Lady for spearheading mindset change among the Karamojong, saying her initiatives have reformed communities once engaged in raiding to now embrace productivity and peace.
Meanwhile, the NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong—represented by the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi—cautioned party members against internal conflicts during and after the election process, warning that disunity weakens the party’s strength on the ground.
NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, Calvin Echodu, echoed calls for unity, thanking the NRM Presidential Candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for steering Uganda’s development and regional stability.
Katakwi NRM District Chairperson John Robert Okirol presented a district performance report, highlighting key milestones and outstanding issues, including disputes over Angisa and Okore land, which he urged the government to investigate thoroughly.
