Luuka, Uganda: The First National Vice Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, has cautioned party supporters and flag bearers against encouraging defeated candidates to contest as independents, saying the practice undermines party cohesion and endangers their political future.
Speaking during a meeting of all NRM flag bearers in Luuka District on Saturday, Kigongo said it was “disappointing” that some party members were fuelling divisions for personal gains instead of strengthening unity ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“Do not seduce those who lose in the primaries to stand as independents. It goes against our party principles and weakens our collective strength,” Kigongo warned. “When you deceive them and take their money, you destroy both your credibility and the unity of our movement.”
The NRM Vice Chairman reminded members that party discipline, loyalty, and structure are the foundation of continued service delivery and political stability. “Vote for NRM flag bearers from local level to the President if you want services to flow. The Movement works as a chain — when one link is broken, delivery fails,” Kigongo said.

He also advised candidates to handle public concerns with humility and knowledge, warning that political mistakes could easily cost the party support. “Avoid political cliques and selfish interests. Bring conflicting issues forward for resolution. When we work together, the people trust us more,” he added.
During the meeting held at Budhabangula Village, Bulongo Sub-county, Hon. Stephen Kisa, the Luuka District NRM Chairperson and MP for Luuka South Constituency, appealed for the government’s intervention to address critical service delivery gaps.
“We lack a district hospital and health center IVs in some constituencies. We also request that the Luuka–Kamuli road be tarmacked, especially where the Namadope dam section has sunk,” Kisa said.
The meeting began with prayers led by Rev. Canon Moses Dhikange, Archdeacon of Kiyunga Archdeaconry, who called on NRM leaders to unite, reconcile, and avoid internal fights that could erode public confidence.
Kirunda and RDC Rally Support for NRM
Hajj Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary and Presidential Assistant for Press and Mobilization, urged Luuka residents to vote “from top to bottom” for NRM candidates to ensure stronger collaboration between central and local governments.
“When you vote NRM at all levels, it becomes easier for leaders to work together and deliver services,” Kirunda said. “Luuka has been voting overwhelmingly for the NRM, and that consistency gives us strength to continue supporting you.”

Iganga RDC Michael Kibwika also challenged party members to actively sell the NRM manifesto at the grassroots, saying the responsibility of mobilization lies with the people who live among voters daily.
AlHajj Kigongo lauded Hajj Kirunda for his mobilization efforts in the Busoga sub-region, describing him as a “selfless servant who never forgets his people.” “Kirunda minds about his area and remembers it always. The spirit of that kind is good, and we need to emulate him,” Kigongo said.
The meeting is part of the NRM’s nationwide grassroots mobilization campaign to consolidate support and strengthen structures ahead of the 2026 elections.
