Bukedi North, Uganda: The Territorial Police in Bukedi North Region are investigating two separate killings reported within just 48 hours; one involving a mob lynching over a stolen hen in Kibuku District, and another a fatal beating linked to a land dispute in Butebo District.

According to ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, the Bukedi North Police Spokesperson, both incidents are being treated as cases of murder, and investigations have been launched to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In the first incident, a 27-year-old man identified as Kasisa Emma, a resident of Nanoko Village, Lwatama Sub County, was killed by a mob on November 6, 2025, after being accused of stealing a hen.

Police reports indicate that the deceased, who lived in Kibuku Town, where his father Charles operates a retail shop, was attacked around 7:00 am and his body later dumped in a eucalyptus plantation in Nanoko Parish.

The LC1 Chairperson, Hasakya Buruhan, said he was alerted by a resident, Sede Stephen, who identified the deceased as his nephew. The case was reported to Tirinyi Police Station, and a joint team from Tirinyi and Kibuku Central Police Station (CPS) visited the scene, documented evidence with the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), and transferred the body to Kibuku Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem.

A female resident, speaking anonymously, expressed shock over the killing: “That boy used to hawk polythene papers in town. It’s sad that he abandoned his work and ended up like this. His father tried to advise him, but he never listened. May his soul rest in peace.”

ASP Kyempasa confirmed that no suspects have been arrested in connection with the lynching but said police have launched a manhunt for those involved. “We strongly condemn this act of mob justice. The public should report suspects to the authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands,” he emphasized.

Two days earlier, on November 4, 2025, police in Butebo District registered another murder case following the death of Kirya Fred, aged 56, of Kachuru Village, Kabwangasi Town Council, after a violent altercation with a neighbor over land boundary markers.

Police say Kirya was attacked by 60-year-old Opolot Sam, his immediate neighbour, during a heated argument. The fight was broken up by a relative, Teko James, and both men later returned to their homes.

However, the next morning at around 5:00 am, Kirya’s son found him lying dead on the floor of their house. The matter was reported to Kabwangasi Police Station, prompting a response from the CID team, who visited the scene, opened a murder file, and took witness statements.

Opolot was arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

“We are determined to conduct a thorough investigation into both cases,” said ASP Kyempasa, adding that police are working with local leaders to strengthen community vigilance and reduce incidents of mob justice and violent disputes.
