Mbale City, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on the people of Mbale to actively participate in Uganda’s wealth creation agenda, saying the government has provided enough programs to lift citizens out of poverty and unemployment.
Addressing thousands of supporters at Maluvu Grounds in Mbale City as he concluded his Bugisu Sub-region campaign trail, the President challenged residents to stop being “spectators” and instead engage directly in income-generating activities supported by government initiatives.
“I thank the people of Mbale for turning up in big numbers for our first rally today. I challenged them to enter the playing field of wealth creation,” President Museveni said.
He emphasized that true transformation begins when individuals take advantage of the numerous programs rolled out by government to promote economic empowerment.
“We have brought several programs, PDM, Emyooga, Youth Fund, and now one for religious leaders, cultural leaders, and unemployed graduates. We don’t want spectators; everyone should play and create wealth,” Museveni said.
“Jobs Come from Wealth, Wealth Comes from Individuals”
The President reiterated his long-standing message on individual enterprise as the foundation of Uganda’s economic growth, saying that job creation is directly tied to personal productivity. “Jobs come from wealth, and wealth comes from individuals. That’s why the NRM is investing in our people through these programs. Imagine what will happen when we add oil money to this effort!”
Museveni’s remarks come as part of his renewed campaign focus on self-reliance, industrialization, and community-based economic transformation, particularly under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga initiatives.

The President also outlined key infrastructure projects the government is set to undertake in the Bugisu region, promising that improved road connectivity will boost trade, mobility, and service delivery.
“On infrastructure, the government will construct and upgrade the following roads: Mbale–Nkonkonjeru, Bududa–Circular, Namagumba–Budadiri, Muyembe–Nakapiripirit, and Tororo–Mbale–Soroti–Kamdini,” he announced.
He noted that these road projects will not only open up the region for business but also enhance access to markets and social services, particularly for farmers and small-scale traders.
Museveni reaffirmed that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) remains focused on five core priorities: peace, development, wealth creation, jobs, and free education in government schools.
“Our mission remains clear: peace, development, wealth creation, jobs, and free education in government schools. When we secure these five, Uganda moves forward—steadily and peacefully,” he said.
The President concluded his address by urging residents to vote for the NRM in the upcoming elections to consolidate the achievements made under his leadership. Following the Mbale rally, President Museveni now proceeds to Bukwo District to kickstart his Sebei Sub-region campaign trail.
