Motorcyclist killed in Busia crash after collision with truck and trailer

Busia, Uganda: A 34-year-old motorcyclist was killed instantly in a tragic multi-vehicle accident at Kyanutumba Village along Jinja Road on Saturday morning, November 15, 2025.

The deceased, identified as Wahata Ronald, a resident of Arubaine B in Busia District, was riding a red Bajaj GT 125 motorcycle (UGH 989A) when the collision occurred at around 10:39 am.

According to police’s preliminary findings, the crash involved an Isuzu FRR truck (KDM 285E, white) loaded with Irish potatoes en route from Kenya to Kampala, and a Renault trailer (KDM 106G/ZH 1982, white).

Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson IP Mugwe J. Moses said Wahata was attempting to overtake a vehicle when he encountered an oncoming trailer, leading to a fatal chain reaction. “The motorcycle tried to overtake other vehicles ahead of him, but he saw a trailer oncoming. He was pushed by KDM 106G/ZH 1982 and was stepped on by KDM 285E Isuzu FRR, dying on the spot,” Mugwe stated.

Drivers Arrested as Investigations Continue

The drivers of both the Isuzu truck and the Renault trailer have been arrested to assist with investigations. They are: Francis Kamau Kimani, 26, a Kenyan national (Isuzu truck driver), and Isiimwe Cedrick, 26, a Rwandan resident (trailer driver).

Police documented the scene and transported the body of the deceased to Busia Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination. All involved vehicles have been impounded at Busia Central Police Station pending mechanical inspection.

IP Mugwe said inquiries into the fatal crash are ongoing, and further updates will be issued. He appealed to all road users to prioritise safety on highways. “Exercise due care because your safety is our priority, so should you also prioritise it.”
