Bugiri, Uganda: President Museveni kicked off his Busoga Sub-region campaign trail on Saturday with strong emphasis on the NRM’s role in uniting Ugandans, restoring peace and delivering major infrastructure projects in the region.

Addressing the yellow Bazzukulu during his rally at Bugiri District Headquarters, Mr Museveni reminded residents that Busoga has directly benefited from sustained stability and development brought by NRM leadership.

“..the NRM united Ugandans and ended the sectarian politics of 1962. From valuing every Ugandan came peace, and that peace brought development,” he said.

The President cited several major road projects completed under the NRM government, including the Jinja–Kampala Highway, Jinja–Iganga–Bugiri–Tororo Road, Jinja–Kamuli–Mbulamuti Road, and the upgraded Iganga–Kaliro Road — describing them as “four brand-new tarmac roads” that have opened up Busoga for trade, mobility and investment.

More Road Projects, Railway Revival on the Way

Museveni assured the people of Bugiri that government will continue upgrading regional transport networks. He committed to ongoing and upcoming works on Jinja–Kamuli–Mbulamuti Road, Iganga–Kaliro Road, Bugiri–Namayingo Road and various town roads within the sub-region

The President also said government is reviving the railway, arguing that rail transport will significantly reduce logistics costs and boost economic activity across Busoga and eastern Uganda.

Addressing the district’s persistent water challenges, Museveni noted that boreholes have proven ineffective in Bugiri due to geological limitations. “Boreholes cannot work in Bugiri. The solution is to pump from Lake Victoria, like we did in Lira. Bugiri will get the same reliable water,” he pledged.

The President said the government is committed to expanding safe-water coverage across Busoga through modern pumping and distribution systems.

Museveni is expected to traverse the entire Busoga Sub-region this week as part of his 2026 Presidential campaign, with rallies planned in Iganga, Jinja City and Jinja District before concluding the tour on November 21, 2025.
