Namutumba, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has praised Busoga’s long-standing contribution to Uganda’s liberation struggle and unveiled a list of key road projects slated for construction in the next financial year.
Museveni, accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni, told residents that Busoga was one of the regions where the anti-Amin liberation effort took root. He said he was representing fallen comrades who died in the struggle, noting that Busoga cadres such as Nkooko and Ntale were executed in Jinja for supporting the resistance.
He said peace remains the foundation of the NRM’s contribution to Uganda. “The first brick we contributed to building Uganda is peace. NRM is synonymous with peace,” he said.
The President added that the second pillar is development, pointing to major national road projects completed under NRM. He cited the Nakalama–Busembatya–Tirinyi–Mbale Road, which he said ended the need for travellers heading to Mbale to pass through Tororo unless travelling to Kenya.

Museveni announced that several road projects connecting Namutumba and neighbouring districts are “already in the pipeline” for the next financial year. These include: Nabumali–Namutumba Road, Busembatya–Namakoko Road, and Kaliro–Namutumba–Mazuba Road.
The President directed his Principal Private Secretary (PPS), Ms Gloria Asio Omaswa, to follow up with local leaders on all pledges made during the rally.
Museveni will tomorrow continue his Busoga campaign trail with rallies in Buyende and Kaliro, where he will deliver the NRM’s ‘Protecting The Gains’ message.
