Bugweri, Uganda: The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for Bugweri District LC5 seat, Dr. Kimark Hamidu, has vowed to end what he described as “job selling and clan-based leadership” in the Busoga district, promising to offer public jobs at no cost if elected LCV Chairperson.
Dr. Kimark made the pledge on Friday at the launch of his campaign rallies at Makuutu Sub-county Headquarters, where he presented his manifesto and sharply criticised the current district leadership for failing to meet the expectations of the people.
“We are going to open the doors of Bugweri District to everyone, away from the hands of a few individuals who have been promoting sectarianism and believing that leadership should belong to a specific clan,” Kimark said.
“We shall give jobs freely, to both the educated and uneducated, because selling jobs is unlawful.” He called for overwhelming support and urged voters to turn up in large numbers on polling day to “make a decisive choice for good leadership.”
Call for Vigilance and Vote Protection
Dr Kimark encouraged his supporters to practice “serious vote protection” by monitoring the process from polling stations to tally centres. He stressed that voters must lawfully demand their victory if any irregularities occur.
He also outlined development plans aimed at dismantling the belief that leadership must remain within certain families, promising that every village will host a production station to support livelihoods and stimulate local productivity.
The launch drew several prominent NUP figures, including Muyonjo Hussein, alias Swengere, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Jinja Southern Division. He urged Bugweri residents to participate actively in the electoral process and stand firmly behind NUP candidates.
“We need a Uganda where services are non-discriminatory. Support NUP candidates and protect your vote,” Swengere said. He advised voters to stay near polling stations after casting their ballots, outside the demarcated polling area, insisting that doing so is within the law.
Swengere urged every supporter to act as a “voluntary agent” to ensure transparency at polling stations.
The rally also attracted other NUP leaders, among them Counsel Abed Mudiobole, the party’s MP candidate for Luuka South, and Kongola Nasser, the NUP flag bearer for Iganga Municipality Mayor.
Four Candidates Battling for Bugweri LCV Seat
The Bugweri LCV race has attracted at least four competitive candidates. These include the NRM flag bearer, Mr Lukaba Swaliki, who defeated incumbent Mr Muziransa Shafik in the primaries, Ndhoga Ibrahim, a journalist known for criticising the current leadership over alleged corruption and misuse of public funds, and other independent contenders who have built strong support bases at the grassroots.
Bugweri voters are now positioning themselves for what is expected to be a hotly contested race as the 2026 General Elections draw closer.
