Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: Uganda’s second U17 side continued their emphatic run at the TotalEnergies CECAFA Regional Qualifiers with a dominant 9–0 victory over Sudan on Tuesday, a result that keeps their title defence firmly on track.
The performance came on the same day Uganda’s Team A bowed out of the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar, but the youngsters in Ethiopia ensured Uganda’s flag remained high with a commanding display that overwhelmed a struggling Sudan side.
Skipper Owen Mukisa set the tone early, netting twice inside the opening stages as Uganda established control. Ogema added a third before halftime as the Cubs applied relentless pressure.
The second half turned into a scoring procession, with Kombi (2), Owino, Fahad, Abdulshakur and Kayemba each finding the back of the net to complete the 9–0 demolition.
Uganda’s fluid attack, high pressing and precision passing left Sudan with no answers throughout the game.
The win lifted Uganda to six points from two matches, scoring 13 goals without conceding after their 4–0 victory over Burundi in the opener.
Road to the Semifinals
Uganda will now face Tanzania on November 21 and Djibouti on November 27, needing to finish among the top two in the group to reach the semifinals.
The final and third-place playoff are set for December 2, where three teams will qualify for next year’s continental U17 finals in Morocco. Uganda are the defending champions, having defeated Tanzania 2–1 in last year’s CECAFA final.
