Mayuge, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has promised to elevate Mayuge Health Centre IV to a fully-fledged district hospital and upgrade several health facilities as part of the NRM government’s next-term plan, while urging residents to embrace wealth creation through the four-acre model.
Addressing a massive rally at Mayuge District Headquarters on Wednesday, the NRM presidential candidate reaffirmed the party’s policy of ensuring a government primary school in every parish and a secondary school in every sub-county.
Museveni said the health upgrade plan will focus on closing gaps in service delivery across the district.
“The plan we have in the next term is to upgrade Mayuge Health Centre IV in Bunya East Constituency to a district hospital. We shall also upgrade Busuuyi Health Centre II in Wairasa, Bwondha Health Centre II in Bwondha Town Council and Wandegeya Health Centre II in Kityerera Town Council to Health Centre IIIs,” Museveni said.
The President rallied Mayuge residents to intensify income-generating activities, noting that those who have adhered to NRM’s wealth creation message have made progress. He discouraged tendencies of ignoring government advice and later suffering due to poverty.
Earlier, upon arrival at 4:05pm, Museveni requested the crowd to observe a moment of silence for the fallen freedom fighters of the Kityerera camp who died during the liberation struggle.

Museveni unveiled the NRM Manifesto for 2026–2031, highlighting four of the seven core achievements of the last 40 years: peace, development, wealth creation and job creation. He promised to unpack the remaining three in an upcoming engagement with the media.
The President also assured sugarcane growers that millers must comply with his directive stopping the 5% deduction from their deliveries. This followed concerns raised by NRM Chairperson Henry Aggrey Bagiire, who also reminded Museveni about unfulfilled directives to NFA regarding 48 villages in forest reserves.
Janet Museveni Rallies Support for NRM
Invited to address the gathering, First Lady Maama Janet Kataha Museveni thanked residents for their strong turnout. “Uganda was once a failed State, but later received a good president who has guided the nation. Remember you have a duty to vote, and vote NRM,” she said.
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Busoga political stalwart, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, urged residents to rally behind Museveni and ensure a landslide NRM victory. She also called for reopening the closed CN Sugar Factory, which had supported many families before a January 2025 court closure.
NRM First National Vice Chairman Al-hajj Moses Kigongo urged supporters to maintain discipline, saying it will guarantee an overwhelming victory for Museveni and all NRM flag bearers.

NRM District Chairperson Henry Aggrey Bagiire commended government for achievements, including Musita–Busia Road, Kyando–Mayuge Town Road and Multiple access roads in Mayuge Town Council. He requested the upgrade of the Mayuge–Bwondha Road to tarmac and applauded government programmes such as PDM and Emyooga.
Senior NRM leaders at the rally included NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda, State Minister for Housing Princess Persis Namuganza, Minister for General Duties Justine Kasule Lumumba, and Eastern Region Vice Chairperson Hon. Calvin Echodu.
