Entebbe, Uganda: Uganda’s U17 national team, the Cubs, is expected to arrive home this Friday, November 21, 2025, at 3:30 pm at Entebbe International Airport after making history as the first Ugandan squad to feature at a FIFA World Cup.
FUFA confirmed the team’s return, urging fans to turn up in large numbers to welcome the historic side.
The Cubs represented Uganda at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar, reaching the Round of 16 in their debut appearance, a milestone that has earned them national admiration.
“We encourage all fans and stakeholders to turn out in large numbers to welcome the team today. The boys have represented the country with great honour, reaching the Round of 16 on their first attempt,” said FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein.
Hussein added that FUFA will organise a special homecoming ceremony to honour the team’s achievement, noting that all stakeholders who contributed to their journey will be invited.
The Cubs bowed out of the historic competition at the last 16 stage, losing to Burkina Faso 3-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes. The young cranes had, in previous rounds of 32 and 48, made strides with remarkable victories over Senegal and France, respectively, the latter being a resounding win to secure progress from the group stage.
