Jinja City, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni wrapped up his Busoga sub-region campaign trail on Friday with a firm message on peace, infrastructure expansion and household wealth creation, key pillars he said define the NRM’s transformation of Uganda.

Delivering his final address at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe in Jinja City, the NRM presidential flag bearer said Busoga’s journey from a once insecure region to its current stability and growing industrial base is proof of the party’s steady-progress model.

“When the Alice Lakwena rebels were disturbing the area, they reached as far as Magamaga and Busede. We brought peace to the whole country. That was the first pillar of Uganda’s house,” Museveni said.

The President cited major government investments in the region, including upgrades on the Jinja–Tororo road, the Jinja–Kampala highway and earlier work on the Jinja–Kamuli route. He confirmed that government has secured funds to construct the long-awaited Jinja–Budondo–Mbulamuti–Kamuli road.

“When people demand many things at the same time, resources scatter and little is achieved. Prioritisation is essential,” Museveni told supporters.

Education and Health Gains

Museveni said Jinja District and Jinja City now host more than 70 government primary schools and 20 secondary schools, but urged leaders to ensure equitable distribution so that every parish has at least one government primary school.

On health, he said all sub-counties now have functional health units ranging from Health Centre IIIs up to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital. He encouraged local leaders to monitor service delivery at these facilities.

The President placed renewed emphasis on household wealth, urging families to adopt the four-acre model and embrace PDM, OWC and Emyooga.

He noted that even urban youth without land are benefiting from the presidential skilling hubs, where trainees in tailoring, metal fabrication, baking and electrical work are already earning income from their skills. “These skills are turning young people into job creators,” Museveni said.

On industrialisation and jobs, Museveni described industrial growth in Busoga as a major driver of employment and regional development, promising action against complaints of corruption in factory recruitments.

With the Busoga campaign concluded, Museveni announced that he will head to Kigezi for the next phase of nationwide engagements aimed at rallying communities around peace, development and prosperity.
